Why Worry About Tesla When Fisker Is Here

Fisker Automotive recently released a teaser of its 'Pear' compact electric vehicle for worldwide market. It will be the smallest EV from the company, with its manufacturing slated to begin 2024 at Lordstown Motors' former manufacturing facility in Ohio, USA. Fisker Automotive will begin production of Pear in India in collaboration with Foxconn. Foxconn already has a massive existence in India as it is the contract manufacturer for Xiaomi and Apple.

Fisker already has an alliance with Foxconn and Magna for the manufacturing of its electric cars in the US. This will allow the company to launch low-budget EVs in India before Tesla sets foot here. In 2007, Tesla Motors hired Fisker to perform initial design work on the Tesla Model S electric sedan, which was introduced in 2012. Fisker hopes to exceed Tesla's 0 to 62 mph time, hoping that the Ocean will reach 62 mph in under 3 seconds. Currently, the Telsa Model Y reports that it will reach speeds of 62. mph in 3.5 seconds. The competition between the Fisker Ocean and Tesla Model Y is pretty close. If the team Fisker manages to pull this out of its performance, it may be the winning feature in this competition. The Pear is expected to slot below the Ocean SUV as an entry-level model, it has the perfect potential to beat the Tesla models.

Fisker says it has designed and engineered the Pear to reduce parts for rapid, simplified manufacturing. The Fisker Pear will be built on a new proprietary architecture. This new platform will underpin two additional models Fisker will introduce later. Interestingly, 'Pear' stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution. We’re looking at what appears like a small hatchback of sorts, with sleek headlights and illuminated ‘Pear’ lettering in their teaser. This is flanked by super sleek illumination on the front fascia and a mesh pattern on the front bumper. To the sides, you see a rear-view camera in place of physical mirrors, bulky wheels, and a distinct curve on the A-pillar. The powertrain of the Ocean can be either a 275PS base Sport trim, offering a WLTP-claimed range of 440km, or the 550PS Extreme trim which takes range up to 630km.

Fisker and Foxconn are targeting a minimum production of 250,000 Pear units per year. Fisker expects prices to go below around ₹ 23.23 lakh for the base variant in India. Fisker has already established headquarters in Hyderabad, Telangana, with plans on bringing in the Ocean SUV and upcoming Pear EV. The former will likely show up in 2023, while the latter towards the end of 2024. Considering production begins in 2024, we could expect a debut in 2023. That’s not all coming from Fisker, as they recently teased the Ronin four-door electric GT sports car, with the prototype debuting in August 2023.
