Honda City eHEV a “Series-Parallel Strong hybrid” system wherein both engine and motor can drive the wheels in different modes. The Honda City e:HEV hybrid sedan can provide three driving modes – EV Drive Mode, Hybrid Drive Mode, and Engine Drive Mode, along with Regeneration Mode when decelerating. Visually, there are very subtle modifications to the car as most of the characteristics are carried over from the ZX trim that it is based on.
Honda City eHEV has been launched at ₹ 19,49,900 (ex-showroom, Delhi). Honda claims eHEV can deliver a 26.5kmpl mileage, as per the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) . In real-world conditions, the petrol Honda City gives around 12-14 kmpl but the hybrid, primarily because it uses battery power in energy-intensive low-speed and traffic conditions delivered over 22.5 kmpl. It will be available in a single flagship-grade ZX trim in five colors: Radiant Red Metallic, Platinum White Pearl, Meteoroid Grey Metallic, Golden Brown Metallic, and Lunar Silver Metallic.
The Honda City eHEV gets a two-motor e-CVT hybrid system which is connected to a 1.5-litre Atkinson-Cycle DOHC i-VTEC petrol engine, Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) with a Lithium-ion Battery, and an Engine linked direct coupling Clutch. In the Hybrid mode, the engine will act as a generator for the batteries and the batteries deliver power to the wheels.
Honda is also bringing an Advanced Intelligent Safety Technology “Honda SENSING” for the first time in India with the new City eHEV. The system utilizes a front camera with a wide angle to achieve far-reaching detection. This setup will be able to scan the road ahead and alert the driver to minimize the risk of accidents and, in some cases, intervene to avoid or lessen the severity of a collision. Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS), Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Auto High-Beam are the signature features of Honda SENSING.
The new Hybrid Honda City gets a dual-tone Ivory & Black colour theme on the dashboard. The car gets a 7-inch HD TFT MID that shows eHEV power flow meters, Honda Sensing support and various other alerts and warnings. The primary infotainment screen uses an 8-inch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity along with One-Touch Electric Sunroof, LED interior room lamps, and Ambient Lighting. Honda has supplied the City eHEV with a mild external noise that can alert animals as well as pedestrians of a vehicle coming up near them.
The new Honda City eHEV will be manufactured in India at the manufacturing facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The New City eHEV comes with 3 years Unlimited Kilometers Warranty as a standard benefit to the customer. Customers can also opt for an extended warranty of up to 5 years and any time warranty of up to 10 years from the date of purchase of the car.
