Here Is How Yamaha Is Expanding In The Two-Wheeler Space

Yamaha Motor Company is prepared to introduce new electric two-wheelers next year. Yoshihiro Hidaka, Chief Executive Officer and Representative Director at Yamaha Motor Co Ltd. has confirmed that the company will reveal new electric scooters for Asian and European markets in 2022.

The upcoming Yamaha electric scooters will be first retailed in the European market, followed by other Asian countries. There will also be new medium-size bikes for markets like Europe, China, Japan, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand. The new Yamaha motorcycles will be rolled out from March 2022.

The company's E01, E02 concept models that were demonstrated in the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show will act as the foundation for the electric scooters. The Yamaha E01 is a maxi-style scooter featuring sporty seats and interior panels. It’s claimed to deliver performance equivalent to a 125cc petrol scooter. The electric scooter concept has been assembled with Bridestone slick tyres and front and rear disc brakes with ABS. It has conventional telescopic forks and a shock absorber linked to an aluminum swingarm at the rear.

Kawasaki and Yamaha will consider the possibility of joint research into hydrogen engine development for motorcycles.

Yamaha’s recently launched Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid scooter in early 2021 was the company’s first step towards entering the EV space in the Indian market. The Fascino 125 Fi Hybrid with electric power assist is just one of many technological advancements achieved in the field of electric mobility by Yamaha. In India, the Japanese two-wheeler will expand its 125cc scooter and 150cc-250cc motorcycle model lineup in the next 5 years. To commence its EV journey in India, the company is presently studying different parameters such as performance, pricing, and infrastructure.

The Japanese two-wheeler maker aims to electrify 90 percent of its product lineup by 2050.
